Messy

Sorting things out from all closets since the real estate agent is coming February 11. She is going to take a lot of pictures so you better clean those messy corners and closets, right?

This is a BIG house and there have been a total of 11 individuals living here. three dogs, two parents and six children. There is a lot of stuff everywhere. Some things I don´t even know what it is and right now it feels like I am going crazy because there are boxes, bags and big trash bags everywhere. It fells like you are trying to sort all closets and drawers out at the same time.

It is good though because then you have done some of the work until we move.

Today it is snowing and I haven´t been outside yet. Since I don´t care much for snow i don´t really mind. But I need to get out to get some air. There are serious dust damage to my skin right now.

See you

going organic

On the farm there are about 120 fruit trees like oranges, lemons, pear, apple quince, medronho (which is also known as the strawberry tree), peaches, olives, cherries, figs, mandarins and grapefruit. There are about 2200 vines, white and blue, for making wine and to eat.

We have our own water from a over 100 meters dug well and there is plenty of it. The water is clean and tastes really well.

The trees are not sprayed with anything toxic and the vines are sprayed today with copper sulfate (?). The plan is to going as green as possible. So now we are looking into alternatives to the copper sulfate.

In the village of Coto there are plastic containers where you can separate your garbage into plastic, metal, glass and paper. The plan is to do the same at the farm so you, as a holiday maker and guest at the farm and we, just can leave your garbage in the proper container and we as the owners empty the containers in the right ones on Coto.

I reckon the chickens will eat all vegetable peels. Yeah the chickens. It means will get free range eggs. And if we can get the time we will grow many of our veggies, tomatoes, pumpkin, onions, courgettes and many more.

We would like to install solar cells and solar panels if it is possible. We have to study everything carefully because we don´t know these things. We don´t know the cost of it and if it will cover the whole property.

You see we have many plans and questions and we hope things will get a bit more clear.

Over and out

snow inside and out

So it feels. It feels like I have snow inside as well as outside. It started to snow yesterday outside and it has been snowing the whole night through. Not that much but an inch or so and i hate it, hate it from the bottom of my heart. it isn´t supposed to be snowing NOW. It might snow a little bit around Christmas just to keep a pretty romantic feeling. But now I am waiting for spring.

I know it is too early, only January and we can have this winter going on for at least another two months, but still.

And as if that isn´t enough, I got snow inside my body as well. It is absolutely freezing inside. Because we are waiting, and waiting and it feels like we have waited enough by now. Waiting for what you might think.
We are waiting to be able to sell our house, move to Portugal, sign those damned papers which aren´t ready yet. Waiting to start a new life.

whine whine

Yesterday we went to see a movie in Gothenburg just to get out of the house for a change. The film we had planned to see had only bad seats left so we took another one. The one we saw was a Swedish one based on a very popular book.

Hundraåringen som klev ut genom fönstret och försvann

Lasse had read it and liked it a lot. I had only started to read it but didn´t like it at all so I didn´t finish it.

The movie was horrible, both Lasse and I thought. But next time we would like to see Philomena.

Tomorrow I am going to see Pontus, the horse, and take him out for a walk. It will be nice.

Yes I said I was back so

Here we go again.

Today will be a busy day. We are going to IKEA to look for a lamp and a carpet. I flipped through their home page and saw a carpet I liked. It is good if you can use it in Portugal as well. Otherwise it doesn´t feel like a good idea to buy new things for the house.

The process of renovating the house is going forward and we think we can soon put it out on the market. Hopefully we will get a good price for it so we can bring some money to Portugal. I think we´ll need it.

I got a mail with a request for a group of 25 people wanting to rent the entire farm (except our house of course) a week in August. I asked them some questions how many adults/children, if they wanted breakfast and so forth. They came up with the answers and I gave them a price. Then I haven´t heard anything from them.

I think you will have to get used to many requests not leading anywhere but it is still fun to at least get a request right?

It is still very cold outside and I am longing to go to Portugal. It isn´t that warm there now but at least you can be outside and not freeze to death like here.

I am going to tell you about a very nice restaurant we visited on New Year´s Eve.

It is very close to home, maybe 5 km and I found it on Trip Advisor.
Adega do Albertino is a bit hard to find if you haven´t been there before.

When we got there we were warmly welcomed. We were the first guests to arrive this evening, the last in 2013. We choose to get there around 7 pm due to the fact we had a young child with us.

On the table there were different tapas. You don´t have to eat them because they are not free. You eat the ones you like or not. There were maybe 6-7 different ones on the table and we wanted to try them all. When the restaurant noticed that we ate and like them they brought more. All in all there were maybe 10-15 different ones in the end. It was New Year´s.

We ordered the Portuguese equivalent to champagne espumante. It was lovely and nice and cold. At the same time we ordered our main courses. We were 5 adults and one child.

We ate and ate more. We ordered dessert and coffees. They came in with home made meringues and dried fruits. Then the home made liquor came in, delicious.

the restaurant, very cozy

dried fruits and home made liquor
All in all we paid about 30 euros each which is a real bargain. The service was excellent and I can easily say it was one of my best restaurant experiences ever.

I´m back

After a long blog holiday I am now back on track again.

There are many things I would like to address but cannot at the moment. Of course it has to do with the very tiresome process of buying a property in Portugal.

We are not just buying a regular property, but a property with the wrong information on the deed. It was 1.6 hectares instead if 1.1. It is positive of course but the land registry, Conservatorio had to make the alterations.

Then it had a cottage on the premises which had no building permit so that had to be registered in a proper way, then it had to be approved as fit to live in, licenca de habitacao.

Then the property must be registered as a agro turismo, a farm where you have holiday lets for tourists.

Then there was a strike.

Now it looks like we´re soon at the end of this very, very long journey of buying a property in Portugal. So far it has taken us 7 months. Our lawyer says it is quite common. But I can´t imagine what has taken so long.

Now something different.

The cold weather has a grip on us. yesterday I went to ride Pontus and even if it was only -3 I was so cold I couldn´t even feel my toes. I started the day walking the dogs and after a short while I felt like a ice woman.
Right after I went to the stable. Since it is quite cold inside a stable I never got my temperature back even after hard work,

We went out for a walk Pontus and I and after 30 minutes we headed back because of the icy wind.

It was so beautiful but oh so cold. I am hoping for some warmer weather so we can ride a bit longer.

The 12 days we spent at the farm over New Year´s were wonderful but very cold inside. We had log fires going most of the days and before we went to bed we stuffed the salamander full so the heat would last during the night.

it was very good to be there and see "the worst". Roof leaking, a lot of rain and cold and very damp inside. A dehumidifier is an absolute must.

Annelie and Lasse are checking out the wine in the adega

First breakfast. Cold inside but newly pressed orange juice from organic oranges. Ours of course

Market in Santana. SUN

Some days were very nice and warm and some were rainy. On Friday Yasmin, Jason and their daughter Mikaela came. It was really nice. They arrived VERY late because the took the wrong road several times. We had to instruct them through text messages and phone calls.

Beautiful even in December

so many oranges

Feeling very very happy.

We just had a marvelous time and I will tell more about it later.
